How to check for business name availability:

First thing first, you will be provided with the Corporate Affairs Commissions (CAC) search form, and you will be expected to type in, the business name that you want registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in your personal computer, and the computer will have to search through the corporate affairs commission’s database, and if the business name you have entered in the corporate affair commission search form has been registered, there will be result displayed, and in the result, you will find the registration number of the registered company and the name of the company, and the address of the company and the time and date the business name was registered.

But if, after typing in your proposed business name in the corporate affairs commission search form, and there is no such name found in the database of the commission, the computer will displayed a blank result, meaning that there is no such business name registered with the corporate affairs commission. With this knowledge, you can go further to register your business name by submitting your business name to be reserved at the corporate affairs commission’s online website.

You are advised to submit up to two business names, should one, out of the two business names is found already registered with the corporate affairs commission by some other person, then the other one could be approved for registration.   • At the website, you will be directed to click; ‘create account’ link
  • That will be followed with an instruction to click; ‘sign in’ link
  • You will have to sign in with your password and username
  • Next step will be an instruction to click; ‘name search’
  • And finally, it will be followed by an instruction to click; ‘my Reservation History’

Having completed the above steps, the system will display the status of the business name you have submitted.

And out of the two business names submitted.

The business name approved will be shown, as well as the reservation date.

At this point, you may click the tap; ‘Action’ .

Now your next step will be to complete your business name registration.

To achieve this, there is a code you will have to used, and it is called; ‘availability code’.

You will need this code to complete your business name registration procedures.

  • Visit the corporate affairs commission’s website and log in to the commission’s portal by clicking; ‘sign in’
  • Type in your username, as well as your password, and then click; ‘log in’
  • Once that has been done clink; ‘name search
  • And followed with by clicking; ‘ my Reservation History

Having completed the steps above, there will be a list of business names that has been approved displayed, and once that is displayed.

Click on ‘Action’ tap, followed with ‘view payment history’.

You will be instructed to serve the file in pdf, and once you have finish saving the file.

You can now download the file, open the pdf file.

In the file, you will see the ‘signal number, which is the ‘availability code.

Once you get the availability code, you can return to the registration button to type in the availability code.

At that point, you might have completed your business name registration.
