Basically a small stand with books people can swap out for free – you have to think about the law.

The library has to be compatible with local zoning laws and in some places, homeowner association rules.

You’ll want it to be accessible: somewhere patrons feel safe visiting and visible to people passing by.

The building has to be one in which patrons want to browse.

Design and arrange it so it’s free from clutter.

Clean and a place where the patrons have easy access to the library staff.

If you plan to hold community events, such as story times, or to offer computer services.

You’ll need space for them too.

You’ll probably want plenty of outlets for powering up phones, tablets and laptops.

Divide the place into sections. Maybe the kids’ section on the left, etc.

Decades ago, libraries checked books in and out by stamping a card in the back of the book.

However, they’re also more expensive.

An ongoing library project requires ongoing funding.

It also helps to have a “friends of the library” organization that raises money in the community.
