San Pedro is home to an amazing fish market. You would never think that you are driving through the capital of Baja, Mexico, and not stopping at a fish market. In the literal sense of the word, this place is a market but it also sells fresh seafood. The best way to describe San Pedro’s fish market is probably “Pecheur Market meets Seafood Hookah Bar”.

You know you love it when your friends and family ask where you get your fish from. When you tell them, they’re amazed that you know about a secret alley fish market in an obscure part of town where the fish is fresh and the prices are affordable. Your friends start telling their friends, and soon everyone nearby is going there too. But where to go? There’s only one place for that – The Best San Pedro Fish Market in town!

The Best San Pedro Fish Market in town!

Don’t let the small size of this fish market fool you. It’s not just another place to score some halibut and salmon. They have their own specialty products and they pride themselves on their fresh, local ingredients. Their atmosphere is casual, with a “fish n’ chips” feel to it. It’s bright, airy and welcoming; perfect for a cold winter day or summer afternoon. I had the pleasure of visiting San Pedro Fish Market back in July when it was still being built out. The space was smaller than what it is now, but everything about the experience was more than worth it! For your iced coffee fix in San Pedro, look no further than their iced coffee station at the front of the shop where you can also find snacks like hot dogs and dips for dipping your chips into! Iced coffees are available hot or iced which is one of my favorite things about this place. The selection changes seasonally so check out what’s available before you go ordering your cold brew from Starbucks!

What to order at San Pedro Fish Market

The best halibut in town, hands down. They have an impressive variety of halibut options from light to ultra-fresh. Ask the fishmonger what type of halibut he recommends for you and for your sake, try to get hold of it fresh. This is not your average halibut. It comes with spicy mayo, roasted red peppers, and cilantro crema. It’s so good you may want to start a club to bring it back home! Topped with lettuce and tomatoes, this Thai-inspired lunch special is one of the best options at the market. It comes with a choice of salmon, pork satay or shiitake mushrooms. For a more affordable entree option, the salmon satay makes for a great lunch option. It comes with peanut sauce and lettuce.

The best sushi and sashimi

Sushi and sashimi are fusion dishes that combine East and West. Sushi is the art of placing raw fish, vegetables and fruit together in a way that results in a delicious meal. At its root, sashimi is raw fish. At its most basic level, it is simply raw fish that has been sliced and arranged on a plate. Depending on the region where you find yourself, sushi may contain raw fish and vegetables, such as cucumber, bell pepper, eggplant, carrots, sprouts and tomatoes. What makes sashimi interesting is that it is usually served as an appetizer. It is often a part of a lunch box or dinner menu. Sushi is also one of the more expensive menu items at the market. However, it is well worth the price. The quality of the fish used, the freshness of the vegetables and the attention to detail that goes into making sushi are all top notch.

All-you-can-eat seafood buffet

Every so often you find a market that offers you all you can eat seafood. And by all you can eat, I mean they will literally feed you. You will literally get up and walk away with empty stomachs. However, this is not the case at San Pedro Fish Market. This market offers you the chance to enjoy unlimited amounts of fresh seafood for one price. Yes, the price is outrageous, but trust me, it is worth it. The all-you-can-eat buffet is endless. There are a variety of options to choose from. Get the salmon kampaya which is a shredded sea vegetable salad and the crab legs which are served with a cocktail sauce that is positively spicy. The best thing about this market is that they do not mind if you go hungry. They have plenty of food options to meet almost anyone’s dietary needs.

Bottom line

The best part about visiting San Pedro Fish Market is that it is one of the most close-knit fish markets in the entire world. The vendors and customers are like family. You will feel very much at home here. If you are looking for fresh, local ingredients to put in your own special recipe or to snack on throughout the day, then you need to check out San Pedro Fish Market. I promise you will not be disappointed. If you love to fish, there is no better place to catch fish than at San Pedro Fish Market. This is one of the best fish markets in the country and one of my favorite places to go in San Pedro.
