The draw to determine groupings was held on December 1. Teams are broken down into eight groups of four teams each, with two teams from each group moving on to the knockout stage. The top two teams from each group will move on to the knockout stage, with the top team from each group earning a first-round bye.

The upcoming Football World Cup will be played in two phases. The group stage will consist of 32 teams broken up into eight groups of four teams each.
