The NPower scheme is one of Nigeria’s Federal Government’s social Investment Programmes created to recruit and empower unemployed Nigerian youths.
This article is to prepare you for the next batch, in case you missed out on applying for the just concluded batch.

1. Ask your hiring manager to give you an idea of what to expect.
Since these tests reveal personality traits, there are no “right” answers to the questions.
However, your manager should be able to tell you the basic concepts you can expect to encounter on the assessment. You can ask your manager:
- “Is there anything I can do to prepare for this test?”
- “What kind of subject matter will I be tested on?”
2. Take practice personality tests online to prepare.
Search for Myers-Briggs tests on the Internet and try taking a few of them.
Answer the questions honestly to get the most accurate results.
Taking these practice tests can help you know what kinds of questions to expect.
- Personality tests are used to determine how extroverted, rational, and emotional you are, among other qualities. Employers use them to evaluate personal qualities, like whether you are introverted or extroverted.
- Practice tests can help you identify traits you can work on to become better suited for the job. For example, if the job requires a lot of interaction, you can work on being more outgoing.

3. Provide answers that show you are a good fit for the job.
Think about the qualities the employer says they’re looking for in the job ad when answering questions.
If they’re looking for highly ambitious people.

If you make yourself sound like a negative or untruthful person, employers will most likely lose interest in you.

8. Ask the hiring manager what skills you’ll be tested on.

Practice solving sample math problems for at least an hour a day leading up to the test.

12. Practice your skills with the software the job requires.
If the job ad asks for proficiency in specific software programs.
You may need to demonstrate proficiency on your test.
For instance, if the job requires you to know how to use Excel.

- Set yourself sample tasks to perform so you feel confident using the program on the test.

13. Create a positive environment for the test.
If you’re taking the test at home, work away from distractions, like the TV.
You want to be focused on the assessment.
If you’re taking the test at the office.
Bring a bottle of water or anything else you might need to feel comfortable.

14. Stay calm while answering questions.
Take a few deep breaths if you find yourself getting stressed out.
If you can’t think of the answer to a question.
Try to come back to it after you’ve finished the rest of the test.
Try not to worry about whether or not you’ll ultimately get the job.
And instead focus on answering each question as well as you can.

15. Read questions thoroughly.
Don’t simply glance at questions and assume you understand them completely.
If a question confuses you, read it again.
If you read a question several times and still don’t understand it.
Take your best guess and try to come back to it later if there’s time.
16. Know how to Write NPower Test
Once you’ve provided accurate records of your BVN and it is confirmed.
A text message will be sent to your mobile a day before you can sit for the NPower test.
Otherwise, your application process will be discontinued.
But if you receive an SMS to write your test, follow these simple steps below:
1. Visit the NPower test Website (apply.npower.gov.ng/test).
2. Choose any of the N-Power Categories (N-Health, N-Agro, N-Teach, N-Tax) you wish to apply for.
3. Fill in your correct phone number and Bank Verification Number, BVN in other to log in.
4. This will take you to the Dashboard where you will find a button (click here tab) that will lead you to start the test.
You can access the test only when it is available.
Otherwise, a message on the website will let you know when you get access and when it will be closed.
17. Know certain things about the test
Here are things you have to know about this phase.
- First, the N-Power selection process hold in phases all over Nigeria.
- The assessment test includes Quantitative & Verbal Reasoning, Lateral Thinking, Numerical Analysis, General Knowledge and other questions testing basic knowledge of English.
- An applicant must also keep in mind that the questions will depend on the program he/she applied for.
- You can seat for the N-Power Online Tests using a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer, provided that these devices are connected to the internet.
- Applicants usually get two chances to attempt and pass the test, so that even if they fail the first time, they get a second opportunity to succeed.
- Any applicant who has successfully applied for the N-Power with valid BVN should patiently wait and keep alert for information on when the test would be scheduled.
