1.Treading processes:

It is quite possible for you to run the balance wheel in a reverse direction.

Thus, rendering the thread hitched in the shuttle race.

So it is necessary for you to have some experience in treadling for the first stage.

To carry out such a practice, the following steps are to be taken:

  • Loosen the stop motion screw in the balance wheel.
  • Raise the lover of the presser bar.
  • Place both feet upon treadle by the foot further ahead of the right foot.
  • Turn the balance wheel towards you with the right hand, and continue to turn the balance wheel with the assistance of treadling.
  • Tread from slow to fast until an easy movement felt.
  • And you can run the balance wheel without reversing it to the wrong direction.
  • Re-tighten the stop motion screw in the balance wheel.
  • Place a piece of cloth under the needle bar.
  • Lower the pressure foot by means of the presser bar lever.
  • Thus enabling the cloth clamped to lay flattened between the pressure foot and feed dog.
  • Then go on treading again, and the feed dog will bring the cloth forward inch by inch.

2. Withdrawing Bobbin:

Turn the balance wheel towards you until the needle bar is raised to its highest.

Draw the slide in the bed to the left, pull open the latch of the bobbin case and lift it out.

3. Winding Bobbin:

(i).loosen the stop motion screw

(ii) Press the bobbin on the winder spindle taking care to see that the small pin in the spindle engage the notch in the right disc of the bobbin.

(iii) Place a reel of thread on the spool pin on the machine bed. Pass the free end of thread through the bobbin winder tension discs.

(iv) Pass the thread through one of the holes in the left disc of the bobbin.

  • Press down the bobbin winder release lever, the bobbin winder latch will drop at the same time upon the bobbin.
  • And the rubber pulley drops as well and keeps in close contact with the balance wheel.
  • If the pressure of former contacted with the latter is not firm enough, regulate the adjusting screw.
  • Turn the balance wheel towards you and continue to turn the balance wheel with the assistance of treading.
  • The thread is thereby wound upon the bobbin.
  • The latch upon the bobbin automatically skips off the bobbin when the bobbin is fully wound.
  • Take down the bobbin from the winder spindle and re tighten the stop motion screw in the balance wheel.

4. Replacing Bobbin:

(I) Insect the fully wound bobbin into the bobbin case

(II) Allow the free end of thread to pass the slot and under the tension spring leaf until it enter the delivery eye. Leaving an end of thread about two inches to hang free.

5. Replacing Bobbin Case:

(i) Turn the balance wheel towards you until the needle bar is raised to its highest.

(ii) Open the slide, hold the bobbin case by the latch, place the bobbin case on to the center stud of the shuttle, allowing the position finger of the bobbin case to set into the notch at the top of the shuttle, race and there after release the latch of the bobbin case.

(iii)Leave the end of the thread to hang, free, then close the slide.

6. Setting Needle:

Turn the balance wheel towards you until the needle bar is raised to its highest. Loosen the needle clamp screw at the lower end of the needle bar and insert the needle into the needle clamp with its flat side facing the balance wheel. Taking care that the needle is inserted as far as it can go, then re tighten the needle clamp screw.

7. Upper Threading:

Turn the balance wheel towards you until the needle bar is raised to its highest. Place a reel of thread on the spool pin on the machine arm. Pass the thread into the parts in order. Finally draw about 4 inches of thread from the needle.

8. Drawing up of under thread:

Hold the end of the needle thread (upper thread) with the left hand, turn gently the balance wheel towards you. Thus enabling the needle to move down and up again.

Thereby catching the bobbin thread (under thread) pull the thread you are holding, the under thread will be brought up with the upper thread.

Then lay back both ends of upper and under threads under the pressure foot.

9. Regulating of upper and under threads:

(i) If the tension on both upper and under threads is normal, the result will be perfect.

(ii) The needle and bobbin threads will be locked in the center of the thickness of the fabric.

(iii)  If the tension on the upper thread is too strong, the joint point will come up to the surface of the fabric.

(iv) If the tension on the upper thread is too strong, the joint point will go down to the underside of the fabric.

(v)  If both of them are too loose, floating stitches will appear.

(vi) If too tight, the fabric will become wrinkled and the thread will be easily broken.

(vii)The upper and under threads can be regulated according to the need.

(viii) If the upper thread is too tight, loosen the thumb nut of the tension disc.

(ix) If the under thread is too loose, lift out the bobbin case and tighten the screw of the tension spring leaf outside the bobbin case with the screw driver.

(x) If the upper thread is too loose, tighten the thumb nut of the tension disc.

(xi) If the under thread is too tight, lift out the bobbin case and loosen the screw of the tension spring leaf outside the bobbin case with the screw driver.

10. Regulating stitch length:

Different fabrics need different stitch length, when the stitch length needs regulating, loosen the thumb screw of the stitch of the stitch regulating limiting plate.

And lower down it in the semicircle groove of the stitch regulating plate.

Then move the stitch regulator.

The lower the stitch regulator, the longer the stitch.

The higher the stitch regulator, the shorter the stitch.

When you are satisfied with the length of the stitch, raise the thumb screw of the stitch regulating limiting plate until it meets the stitch regulator.

And then re tighten the thumb screw.

If you need backward feed, raise the stitch regulator up most.

At this time, the stitch can be same both in backward and forward feed.

11. Regulating Pressure on Presser Foot:

For thick fabric, increase the pressure on the presser foot by turning the presser bar regulator thumb screw clockwise.

On the contrary, for thin fabric, decrease the pressure on the presser foot by turning the presser bar regulating thumb screw counter clockwise.

12. Belt Guide:

By moving the belt guide to the left, the belt disengages the band wheel.

To replace the belt, work the treadle and enable the belt to cling to the toughed clamp at the rim of the band wheel.

A couple of revolutions of the band wheel will bring the belt into place.

13. Removing and replacing open shuttle race:

Turn the balance wheel to raise the needle to its highest position.

Draw the slide open. Take out the bobbin case.

Push aside the left and right latches.

Remove the shuttle race back, and take out the shuttle body.

Sweep away the lint and fluff accumulated in the shuttle race.

Then replace the shuttle body and the shuttle race back.

Push the left and right latches on the core pin of the shuttle race back. Replace the bobbin case and draw the slide close.

14. Oiling the Machine:

For easy running from extraneous noise.

The bearings and contacting parts should be kept clean and lubricated constantly.

So as to prolong the life of the machine.

If the machine is in constant use, oiling is to be applied daily.

If it is not, oiling can be applied twice or thrice monthly.

And a drop of oil is sufficient for each of the lubrication holes.

Excessive oiling is not advisable as this will stain the fabric to be sewn.
